About Sharing your Commitment in Our Final Class - please read!
Some of you have asked me to outline what you should include in your presentation on our final day, so I hope this helps.
DO NOT READ US YOUR PAPER. I consider it an informal conversation (meaning don't create a PowerPoint) but I advise you to use notecards so that nerves don't make you forget what you want to say.
You should plan to talk between 4-6 minutes (before any questions); no more is required.
1. Explain what your Commitment is and give us some background about the issue. (In other words, educate us a bit!)
2. Tell us a little bit about yourself (i.e. your own history and experiences) and why you chose this Commitment you did. In other words, why does this particular issue especially matter to you?
Be assured that you don't have to share everything that you might have included in your paper which feels too personal. Only I will read the paper. It's OK when speaking to the class to respect your own boundaries and know that we also will honor those.
3. Tell us how your Commitment connects for you with our course themes/writers/content. Be as specific as you can in relating your commitment to the people and situations we have covered in this class. If there are some quotes you referred to in your paper, this section is a good place to include them in your talk!
4. Tell us about the specific Action Steps you plan to take.
5. Answer any questions from classmates or me, and then take a deep bow and congratulate yourself on a job well done!
