Realization- a Poem by Marilyn Nelson (5 minutes)

I had the pleasure of hearing Marilyn read some of her work in person at the Vermont Studio Center in Johnson in 2014.

Marilyn Nelson (1946) has published over eight books of poetry, as well as many collections of verse for children and young adults. She is a professor emeritus from the University of Connecticut. 

This poem is a response to the following sculpture by Harlem sculptor Augustus Savage. (Poems based on art are called Ekphrastic Poems.)
