Master File Assignment
As we have been learning, a Master File is the equivalent of our digital negative. Once we have selected an image as a keeper we set out to improve the image, or process it with the use of non-destructive adjustments in the Develop Module of Adobe Lightroom. This image or Master File (the original jpeg or RAW file) is then archived with the adjustments in our Lightroom Catalog. These adjustments are only visible when viewing the image in Lightroom. The beauty of the Master File is the flexibility if offers the photographer. At any point you can go back and rework/change one or all of the Develop Module adjustments. You can even return the image to its original state without compromising image integrity. Your image catalog or archive will be full of countless Master Files (images that you've processed or made adjustments to). During the semester you are going to submit a total of two Master Files as assignments each worth 50 points. Once you have submitted your file I will be able to import it to Lightroom on my end and see the adjustments you have made and provide feedback on your use of the tools.
The specific requirements for this assignment are as follows:
- Image is a Portrait (people or animals)
- All work done on the image should be done using tools in the Lightroom Develop Module
- At a minimum, Portrait Master File should include adjustments from the Basic Tab (things like exposure, highlights, shadows, clarity, contrast, vibrance), HSL Tab, and Detail Tab (capture sharpening and/or noise reduction), Cropping and include the use of at least two Masking actions (brush, gradient filter, radial filter, etc) for making selective adjustments.
- File should be exported from Lightroom and submitted via Dropbox or WeTransfer file sharing services (both offer free accounts) to me at info@kurtbudligerphotography.com
- See below video for how to Export your Master File
